Both the Emergency Department and MRI Suite construction projects are officially underway, with EllisDon on site as the awarded contractor for the Emergency Department and Phase 1 of the MRI Suite construction.
"These two sites may not look like much today," said Vivian Smith, Executive Director of the Foundation at the construction kick off event held this week, "but what we are seeing is the groundwork for better care, more privacy for patients and caregivers, more capacity, and the quality facility Langley has long deserved."
With hospital staff and the team from EllisDon on hand to speak with donors, the Foundation gave an update on each phase of construction and what the site will look like once the project is complete in early 2021 .
The event also celebrated two significant gifts to the campaign with a $1 million gift announcement from Manjit and Darcy Gill and a $500,000 gift from the Carlson family.
Manjit and Darcy have called Langley home for almost 50 years and Langley remains home to four generations of their family, including nine of Darcy's siblings and all their children and grandchildren.
"Health is important to everyone, and good health makes not only your life better but also your family and society better too," says Manjit. "A healthy lifestyle is the greatest advantage one can get and provide others. That's why we're honoured to help this project."
The Carlson family is another long-time Langley family who is no stranger to the hospital. Generations of family members have leaned on the care here - from births to end of life care, to surgeries and trips to the ER - this is their hospital and it is an important supporting pillar of their community.
A big thank you to Laurie and Gerry Carlson, along with sons Ted and Brent, and daughters Cathy and Leanne, for their generous $500,000 gift. The MRI Patient Waiting Lounge will be named in their honour.
